I have a general idea... as I was the Sole Master Control Operator for Channel 56 for close to a decade here in Hawaii.

Much of PBS Hawaii's programming locally... was actually produced by my old office... (And still is... Music Factory, Kidphysics, Earth, Voices and Wings, Exploring the Islands...etc.)

However, the majority of PBS programming is fed through a Satellite and funded nationally. (Sesame Street, Barney, etc.)

They do not have many local programs and those that are, generally are funded.

Here is a 2003 chart on PBS Nationally funded programs:

Don't have time right now to look into the local funds.

Aren't they funded largely by the corporation for public broadcasting and "viewers like you"? If people stop contributing then it may not survive as it is right now.

So from that comment I'm assuming you don't understand how much it costs to run a broadcast TV station by professionals. And remember that these guys go the extra mile to broadcast to much of the Big Island.

"Can a non-profit journalism model survive? Ask Leslie, she works for one."

I'm assuming you understand how much of our tax money goes into funding PBS?

I don't see it going out of business any time soon.
