The extensive damage in Kohala by the earthquake was still big news in Hawaii but fading fast nationally. No fatalities and lots of bad news out of Iraq and the shenanigans of a U.S. Senator pushed Hawaii’s quake off the national media’s radar screen. Print media was still interested but for TV the quake already had its 15 minutes of fame.
Local TV stations like KITV did a good job of broadcasting live during the quake and doing lots of follow-up coverage. Hawaii newspapers still are covering the story as it isn’t over yet for the many residents affected.
